Minister: Yukos ex-owners ask for Russian assets arrest in 6 states
MINSK, Feb 25 (PRIME) -- Former shareholders of defunct oil company Yukos demand arrests of Russian property in six countries, Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov told reporters on Thursday.
“In six jurisdictions where a so-called legislature procedure has been launched, where Yukos shareholders have turned to national courts, asking to implement the ruling of the Hague arbitration court, in all these cases there is a long-standing opposition struggle, including against the attempts to withdraw assets of various kinds,” Konovalov said.
The Permanent Court of Arbitration in Hague ruled in July 2014 that Russia pay U.S. $50 billion compensation to former owners of Yukos for the company’s bankruptcy ruling and asset nationalization. Russian authorities refused to fulfill the court order, and the shareholders sent claims to several countries, asking to help the fulfillment of the court order.
